Last time I went home, I got a chance to prepare another dish : Sauteed Mushroom.
This time I was more well equipped : Armed with good knives, and cutting boards I set out. I had a helping hand : An amateur just like me, my good friend Vishnu.
Ingredients:
- Mushrooms ( 250 – 350 grams (some 15-20 pieces may be)
- Onion (3-4 large white onions)
- Garlic
- Salt
- Oil
- Ground pepper
How to make :
Immerse the mushrooms in water mixed with turmeric to clean it. If you get fresh clean ones then no need to do this. But most of the mushrooms that we get will be sprayed with chemicals, so better you wash it. 🙂
If the mushrooms are large cut them into smaller pieces if not, leave them as such. The mushrooms will shrink when they are boiled.
- Next step is to cut the onions and garlic. Cut the onions longitudinally only (don’t dice it) . (Thin slices)
Cutting the onions were the fun part. Well, to say the truth, my aunt who was watching us over had the real fun. Even she got tears in her eyes watching us run to wash our face every now and then. Whew! With tears coming down our eyes and with running nose, we fumbled our way across the kitchen to the wash basin frequently. I guess I need to work more on cutting onions faster and without wetting the kitchen table with my tears. 😀

- Next, boil the mushrooms in water. Water takes about 5 minutes to boil, and another 5 minutes for the mushrooms . So total time may take about 10 minutes.
Pour just enough water to cover all the mushrooms when you boil it and you can cover the pan while boiling so as to get it done faster.
Look at ’em boiling man! We had cut our mushrooms into half because it was too big.
- Next fry the onion in oil, it has to get done in medium heat, this may take about 15 minutes.
You need to fry it till the onions turn golden in colour.
Next add some salt and the fresh ground pepper to the onions and stir.
- Then mix it with the onion and let it cook for about 5 minutes. That is it !
Add loads of pepper after it is cooked.

You can have it with bread , chappathi or anything that feel like having it . Mix and match 😀
